According to Entertainment Writer NEKESA MUMBI MOODY of The Associated Press \u2013 Michelle \u201c\u2026Obama got arguably the night’s loudest ovation as she came on stage and declared “Black girls rock!” – the slogan and name of the organization founded by Beverly Bond. It is designed to uplift young black girls, a group that often has difficulty finding positive and reaffirming images of themselves in the world…\u201d<\/p>\n

HERE’S\u00a0THE REAL QUESTION:\u00a0Within all the controversy of Racism today — does it\u00a0feel like\u00a0there’s a double standard going on?<\/p>\n

As one YouTube commenter wrote:\u00a0“…Imagine a white first lady getting up in front of a crowd and saying…. ‘White girls rock!’ Your president thinks you rock too!”<\/p>\n

If such a thing did happen, do you think there would\u00a0be any cause for offense, and would we hear from the offended?<\/p>\n

It is\u00a0easy to understand,\u00a0that the reason behind the\u00a0event was to accentuate\u00a0the mission of BlackGirlsRock, Inc. which is\u00a0“to promote\u00a0the arts for young women of color, as well as to encourage dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media.”<\/p>\n

Now, remember, we can’t even enjoy the Disney movie ‘Song of the South’ on DVD because Disney has it locked up in the vault. Banned, because it portrays\u00a0life on a southern plantation in the days of slavery, featuring the black man Uncle Remus (who, by the way,\u00a0everyone dearly loves), all based on the fear that the movie’s premise\u00a0is in some way\u00a0offensive to the black community. So, if race consciousness is going to be the cause of something like that (along with many other such things),\u00a0then in\u00a0this ever so incessant race equality conscientious\u00a0society\u00a0that we have become —\u00a0for the First Lady of our country to come along and specifically (and emphatically) indorse and hail an organization which identifies itself\u00a0with such a\u00a0blatant (in your face) race baiting\u00a0title as “Black\u00a0Girls Rock,” well…….., that sort of thing just seems\u00a0laced with a gross and rotten amount of double standard\u00a0is all.<\/p>\n

Aside from the fact that not all black girls rock.\u00a0For example, watch this and pay particular\u00a0attention to\u00a0the other black girls standing around filming\u00a0and participating in this. I would say that these black girls don’t Rock at all – but rather the opposite.<\/p>\n

By the way, there are\u00a0a great number of\u00a0Black Girls who do indeed Rock. So do a goodly portion of\u00a0White Girls, Hispanic Girls, Indian Girls, Irish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, German, Middle Eastern, Russian, Brazilian, Mediterranean, Etc., Etc.!<\/p>\n

Oh, and\u00a0we get\u00a0that\u00a0you’d like it if we\u00a0garnered\u00a0a little more understanding about the concept behind\u00a0“Black Girls Rock,” and maybe appreciated\u00a0the good intentions\u00a0driving the\u00a0movement. I’d even say that you’d\u00a0be\u00a0perfectly correct in this manner of thinking,\u00a0except—\u00a0if you’re going to be on the side that claims, and brutally enforces political\u00a0correctness, especially when it benefits your cause,\u00a0then you’d better yourself be politically correct and meticulously\u00a0fair across the board, especially if you’re the President\u00a0or the First Lady!<\/p>\n

Here at TomZom, we abhor racism even in the least degree!<\/p>\n
